UPDATE 1: You can now download the official installer for the DJI Assistant 2 software for Windows OS – http://www.dji.com/product/phantom-4/info#downloads
If you own ( or did own ) a Phantom 3, I am sure you remember how much of a pain it was to upgrade the firmware. Place SD in PC, Download/Unzip the .bin to the root of the card, put SD in the Phantom, turn it on, listed to the beeps and look at the lights..
Well, for you an me no,all that is gone. DJI have gone back to using a computer program to accomplish the upgrades via an app creatively called “DJI Assistant 2” ( those with a P2 sill remember it was called DJI Assistant on that 🙂 ).
The update process has been streamlined to have very few user steps and none that require much computer knowledge. Lets look at the process.
1: Connect the Phantom 4 to your PC using the supplied USB cable.
2: Launch the DJI Assistant 2 Software.
3: Click “User Login” on the top right corner and log in using your DJI account details.
4: Select “Phantom 4”.
5: Click “Upgrade” on the left the choose the version you would like to upgrade to.
6: Click “Start Upgrade”.
7: The firmware will start to download and then begin upgrading the Phantom 4 automatically.
8: The upgrade process will take up to 15 minutes and during this time there will be NO sound prompts, the gimbal will go limp, the LED lights on the arms will flash randomly and the Phantom might reboot.
9: When the DJI Assistant 2 software indicates the firmware upgrade is complete, reboot the Phantom 4.
10: If the upgrade fails for any reason, please repeat the process. if the issue persists, contact DJI support.
